Baptism Class

St. Bernardine’s has a wonderful program preparing parents for the Baptism of their children.  The Rite of Baptism, with its signs and symbols, is explained, as well as the spiritual formation role of the parents and godparents in bringing up the child. Comprehensive Youth Ministry (CYM)/Confirmation for Adults/Youth

CYM is the place for all Junior and Senior High teens looking for a chance to learn about their faith and how to live that faith in today’s world.  CYM offers an opportunity to meet other teens in a fun environment while preparing for Confirmation.  The program is offered in six-week modules and provides a place for all students to receive ongoing religious instruction.  Please call our Parish Office at (818) 888-8200.

Faith Formation

We offer a Faith Formation program to children attending public and private schools.  The classes run from the end of September thru the first week of May, and are held on Tuesday afternoons from 4PM - 5PM.  First through sixth graders are taught by trained volunteers from the parish, who are excited about their faith and the chance to share it with our children.  Please call the Eileen Fewless in the Religious Education Office at 818-340-1440.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R C I A)

Christian Initiation is an open-ended process of formation and education for those interested in the Catholic faith.  RCIA is for those who are not baptized; those baptized in other Christian traditions, and baptized Catholics who never received Eucharist and/or Confirmation.  It is a journey that invites people to broaden and deepen their prayer life, to know God through Scripture, to come to know themselves and to actively participate in parish activities.  Please call our Parish Office at (818) 888-8200.   We have programs for both adults and children.

Justice and Peace

These dedicated people collect food monthly for the Guadalupe Center Food Bank.  Each Christmas, they sponsor the Adopt-A-Family program, providing food, clothing and gifts to those in need.  Please call Maryanne Malzone Miller at 818-618-1467.


Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound
If you or one of your family is homebound due to illness, please call the Parish Office and we will have a Eucharistic Minister bring communion to your home once a week for as long as necessary.  This service is currently on hold due to COVID restrictions. 

Finance Committee

St. Bernardine’s Parish Finance Committee operates as an Ad Hoc Committee to the Parish Council and the Pastor.  Its members are selected by the Pastor from the community on the basis of experience and technical skills.  The Finance Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Pastor.


Mary and Martha’s

These ladies act as hostesses for funeral buffets in the Parish Hall and will also housesit during the services and receive food deliveries.  They serve on a rotating basis, and how often they are called depends on the number of funerals.  Call Chris Schehr 818-347-7744 for more information.

Parish Council

A group of elected parishioners, serving terms of two years, meets monthly to discuss parish needs. They work with the pastor in developing parish policies and fostering good relations between parishioners.  They offer suggestions to the pastor and help to implement new programs.  They provide leadership by setting goals and clarifying parish vision.  All parishioners are invited to attend these meetings.

Funeral Buffet/Reach Out

This committee prepares food and delivers it to the funeral buffet.  We have a rotating list of volunteers who prepare a casserole, dessert or salad about once every 10-12 weeks.  Please call Shirley Grochalski at 818-347-6228.

Women on the Journey

This group of women of all ages meets twice a month to pray, share and support one another in their roles as mothers, grandmothers, daughters and sisters.  Call Jean Sampson at 818-346-8116.


St. Bernardine’s has many Girl, Cub and Boy Scout troops meeting here on a regular basis.  For more information about whom to contact for Boy, Cub, Girl Scouts, please call the Parish Center at 818-888-8200.

Social Activities Committee

This group brings the school and parish community together via social events.  From bingo, dances, field trips, outdoor concerts and Family Fun Nights -  they plan events for all ages.  They meet monthly to organize activities.  Come join us at the next meeting or if you have any ideas for future events, please call Peggy Pryor at 818-426-6539

Altar Care

About 5 men and women come each week to clean the church on Friday mornings.  They take care of the vacuuming and dusting.  New members are always welcome.  Please call the Parish Office at (818) 888-8200.

Altar Servers

We have a great program for boys and girls, fourth grade and up.  An invitation is issued families once a year just before the new training begins.  If your child is interested in serving please contact Cathy Barkes in the Parish Office at (747) 888-9758 or at

Our Ushers and Greeters welcome us as we arrive at church on Sunday.  They help with the offertory collection and the distribution of communion by keeping us moving in an orderly fashion.  Call Jenn Nelson at (805) 824-2269.


Eucharistic Ministers

We have many trained volunteers who help to distribute Eucharist at Mass.  We are always looking for new people for this rewarding ministry.  Call Beth Downing at (818) 631-5700
